Koulas Fort is a 9th century fort with rich history. Its a delight for hikers and history enthusiasts .The fort is in a three-tier system, has two main entrances and as many as 52 bastions. Most of the structures inside temples, a dargah and granary are in ruins. The fort connects us to the rich history of Telangana.

    History:

    The history of the fort dates back to the 9th century AD. According to historians, it was built in Indra IV’s period of the Rashtrakuta dynasty in their political capital and was later captured by the Chalukyas of the Kalyani dynasty in the third quarter of the 10th century before it was captured by the Kakatiyas in the 12th century.

    The Kakatiya kingdom, which ruled from present day Warangal, held the Kowlas Fort till 1323 AD, a period more or less parallel to the one and only Kakatiya woman ruler, Rani Rudrama Devi. Later, the Kowlas region is said to have come under the rule of the Bahmanis, Qutb Shahis, Yadavas, Naikwaries, Mughals, Devagiri, Kalyani, Marathas, etc and finally under the Asaf Jahis (Nizams) (1724 to 1948).

    Aurangzeb appointed Raja Pathamsingh Gaur as governor of Kaulas for this province. His descendants Asaf Jahi were vassals of the Nizam kings and played an important role in the protection of their kingdom. In 1724,

    1. 5:30 AM Arrival at Location

      Meet at meetup point and start to Ghanpur in private transportation.

    2. 7:00 AM Breakfast

      Break for breakfast on the way.

    3. 8:00 AM Start Hike

      Reach Bhongir. Start hike.

    4. 11:00 PM Back to Base

      Reach Base  from where we started the trek. Freshen up a bit and start back to Hyderabad.

    Over Night Trip

    • 2L water. Do get re-usable water bottles from home to avoid buying plastic mineral bottles.
    • Sun Cap and Sunscreen
    • Wear Full hands shirt and trousers to avoid scratches.

    • Dry Fruits, Carrots, Fruits, Dates to munch.
    • Photo Id (any valid card with your photograph and signature on it)

    Day Trek
    • Backpack to put all your things in.No hand luggage so that your hands are free.
    • Trekking /sport shoes with extra pair of socks [Preferably shoes which cover till your ankle]
    • 2L water.
    • Sun Cap
    • Wear Full hands shirt and trousers to avoid scratches.
    • Energy bars/ ORS
    • Dry Fruits, Carrots, Fruits, Dates to munch.
    • Photo Id (any valid card with your photograph and signature on it)
    • Signed Disclaimer form.

    Anyone fit and is able to walk for 4-5 hours can do this trek. Just have an attitude of not giving up. We take a age limit of 18+ unless explicitly specified in the trek page.

    Wear something loose and comfortable. Do not wear any bright colors but wear natural colors to blend with nature. Get a good sun cap to protect your self from sun. Always good to wear full hands and full length trousers to avoid scratches. If its rainy season a raincoat or poncho is a must.

    Walk minimum 30 minutes daily. If you are going on a long trek see that you can jog for 30 minutes . From 2 days before the trek Dehydrate yourself by drinking lot of water . Sleep well the night before.

    We suggest participants to get gear based on the season. We suggest you go over the things to get section in the earlier tab.

    We take a age limit of 18+ unless explicitly specified in the trek page.

    Mostly we serve vegetarian and local food based on the availability. Breakfast is mostly bread, Jam, fruits. Lunch is rice, dal and vegetables. Lunch, Dinner is based on the campsite sometimes we take packed food or we serve on the top.

    An organizer will accompany the group at all times and also based on a trek a local will be with the group.

    We will be using nature. But to keep the place clean we request all trekkers to go a bit away from the campsite and also to cover up with soil after they are done.

    We will not have water sources. We advice the trekkers to carry 2 / 3L of water for day / overnight treks.

    Mostly the network’s would not be strong as we would be going into the hills and forests. Be prepared for no signal and inform yours contacts if you are expecting any calls.

    We advice people not to wear new shoes on a trek. A good trekking shoes is preferred which are available in any popular trekking goods stores.

    We have a strict no smoking and drinking policy on the treks. Alcohol dehydrates you and smoke can risk a forest fire. Anyone found with to violate this will be removed from the trek immediately.

    We have a strict no waste and littering policy. Any waste created should be carried back and disposed in proper dustbins.
