Ghanpur is a beautiful old fort set around 100kms away from Hyderabad. It provides a great landscape of rocky paths, ponds, green pathways, war cannons which makes it a ideal place for a day’s hike. This place is ideal if someone wants a day’s getaway from Hyderabad and try out some scrambling, caving.

All about the Khilla Ghanpur.

Ghanpur Khilla a historical place located at an equal distance,25 kilometers, from Mahabubnagar. It is 111 kilometers away from Hyderabad.

The fort is spread on rocky and hilly area of 4 Sq kilometers and there are fort buildings spread across the top most part of the hill.

The fort was well built with cannons on the upper side of the fort. There are several remains of the walls and building blocks inside the fort. There are several temples inside the fort like Veerabhadra Temple, Narasimha Temple and Chowdeswari Temple. There are several caves on the hilltop and provide good opportunity for exploration. There are many adventure activities that can be done here including rappelling, rock climbing, caving etc.

There are two ponds inside the fort with fresh water and are good for swimming. There are several hills around the fort and they provide good opportunity for trekking as well. Ghanpur Lake is a large lake situated close to the Ghanpur village and the view of the lake from the fort is picturesque.

  1. 5:30 AM Arrival at Location

    Meet at meetup point and start to Ghanpur in private transportation.

  2. 7:00 AM Breakfast

    Break for breakfast on the way.

  3. 9:00 AM Start Hike

    Reach Ghanpur. Start hike from the base village. Initially we would have to climb some stairs which will lead us into rocky pathways.

  4. 1:00 PM Lunch

    Break for lunch. Vegetarian packed lunch will be provided at the start of the trek to each participant.

  5. 4:00 PM Back to Base

    Reach Base village from where we started the trek. Proceed to the nearby Ghanpur lake where one can swim. Start back to Hyderabad.

  6. 7:00 PM Back to Hyderabad

    Return back to meetup point. Say our good byes and head back to home with smiles.

Over Night Trip
  • Trekking shoes [Preferably shoes which cover till your ankle]
  • 2L water. Do get re-usable water bottles from home to avoid buying plastic mineral bottles.

Day Trek

Anyone fit and is able to walk for 4-5 hours can do this trek. Just have an attitude of not giving up. We take a age limit of 18+ unless explicitly specified in the trek page.

Wear something loose and comfortable. Do not wear any bright colors but wear natural colors to blend with nature. Get a good sun cap to protect your self from sun. Always good to wear full hands and full length trousers to avoid scratches. If its rainy season a raincoat or poncho is a must.

Walk minimum 30 minutes daily. If you are going on a long trek see that you can jog for 30 minutes . From 2 days before the trek Dehydrate yourself by drinking lot of water . Sleep well the night before.

We suggest participants to get gear based on the season. We suggest you go over the things to get section in the earlier tab.

We take a age limit of 18+ unless explicitly specified in the trek page.

Mostly we serve vegetarian and local food based on the availability. Breakfast is mostly bread, Jam, fruits. Lunch is rice, dal and vegetables. Lunch, Dinner is based on the campsite sometimes we take packed food or we serve on the top.

An organizer will accompany the group at all times and also based on a trek a local will be with the group.

We will be using nature. But to keep the place clean we request all trekkers to go a bit away from the campsite and also to cover up with soil after they are done.

We will not have water sources. We advice the trekkers to carry 2 / 3L of water for day / overnight treks.

Mostly the network’s would not be strong as we would be going into the hills and forests. Be prepared for no signal and inform yours contacts if you are expecting any calls.

We advice people not to wear new shoes on a trek. A good trekking shoes is preferred which are available in any popular trekking goods stores.

We have a strict no smoking and drinking policy on the treks. Alcohol dehydrates you and smoke can risk a forest fire. Anyone found with to violate this will be removed from the trek immediately.

We have a strict no waste and littering policy. Any waste created should be carried back and disposed in proper dustbins.

A great trip and location. Enjoyed the trip and the swim post the trek is the highlight. Great organizing and our safety was given top priority all the time.
